Do people care about comics anymore? aka Comic movies and shows

Now when every other comic hero has a movie or a series, people dont seem to care about comics anymore, after all thats where the heroes came from.
Marvel has infected the population with their neverending stream of kidfriendly uninspired "hero" movies so people think that Marvels view of a hero is the standard. So to get by, DC is going also down the same road of making movies and TV-shows.

The recent reincarnations of DC heroes like Arrow and Flash (and lets not forget the pre-Batman Gotham) don´t impress me. They are made for the average viewer who dont know anything about comics. These down to earth heroes are much too realistic for a man who reads comics.

Also, I´m in Facebook on several groups, and I´ve noticed that almost half of the posts is linked to a movie or TV-show. I´ve drawn a conclusion that people either dont read so much comics anymore or that the real comic lovers arent active.

Gotta say, for me comics are ALWAYS the main thing. Everything else is just icing on the cake.

Godzilla Legends -review

The most recent Godzilla movie divides peoples opinions but one thing could be said about these IDW comics: Godzilla is the main character. But theres an exeption for every rule: in Legends, Godzilla lets the lesser known kaijus take the stage. Although in the last story, Godzilla gets a bigger role.

The book consists of 5 little stories with monsters like Hedorah and Rodan. Each gets to shine, but theres a humane aspect in the core of each story.

The most interesting story is the one with Titanosaurus where they mix alien invasion into the mix. Also the last story with Kumonga, the giant spider, gives a nice insight to Godzillas mind.

Legends is really colorful but and the art is fantastic. The pencilers really do justice to these legendary monsters. The storylines are wowen carefully humanising these creatures, which is a good thing. I´m always in natures side :-)

Over all, a great but too fast a read!

I give 4/5 stars.

Crossed vol 1 -review

First when I saw this, I thought that this is just rip-off from The Walking Dead, but now I´m glad that I was wrong. Crossed is a hundred times more violent and more nihilistic. There´s no hope.

This starts just like another zombie invasion. People are turned through bite or saliva onto flesh eating freaks, but this time the virus (or whatever is the cause) makes people loose their inner inhibitions and act violently. The one really  gruesome aspect of this is that the virus also makes the infected do sexually deviate acts like necrophily, masochism and pedophilia.   No sexual or violent deed is too much for these crazy people.

Beyond all the depravity there´s a inner meaning to all this violence. My interpretation of the story is that people of today dont care about anything anymore. Everything they see on TV about global warming, population explosion etc...they just shrug it off. They dont feel anything because the Internet has made them emotionally detached from reality. AND then comes the virus which is a slap in the face. Face it or DIE.

I understand that these books are separate stories and this one tells a story of a small group who tries to stay alive amidst all this chaos.  There are quite a bit of shocks and turns in the story that make you gasp for air...so I don´t recommend this for the faint of heart.

Although this lacks the depth of characters like in Walking Dead, this is a gruesome slap in the face to me too (but in the nicest way possible)...

I give this 4/5.

My thoughts on Marvel

I recently participated in comics panel. The topic was which makes a superhero interesting: weakness or strength. And as you would expect in Finland (where I live) the biggest part of the conversation rotated around the subject that Marvel has superior heroes and DC is an underdog... I´ve been pondering about these opinions in my head and the ignorance of these panelists really make my skin crawl. They didnt have the slightest idea what DC is all about and they didnt know DC that well.

Here´s what I have to say on differences between DC and Marvel.

Also, I read Marvel for 20 years until I found the heaven that is DC.

1. The depth of characters

Let´s face it: Marvel heroes lack any kind of depth. They get their powers mainly by accident (like Spider-man, F4, Hulk) and therefore lack the emotional growth that goes with when you develop your powers.   Sure there are characters in DC who also get their powers by accident, but DC can get something interesting out of these characters!  Marvel heroes are mainly suited for kids and teens who really want to see Hulk smash things and Spidey fighting for the X:th time against Dr Octopus.

For example Smallville. Could Marvel have extended any of their characters back stories into ten seasons? I highly doubt it.  The lamest excuse for explaining heroes´ powers is probably Marvels X-men:  They have a mutant gene so they are heroes.   Isnt it thrilling?

2.  Superman

The biggest bullshit talk in the panel was aimed at Superman. "He is such a boy scout. He is always so good. He is unbeatable so he is lame".   The panelists failed to understand what Superman means in the whole comic industry and in the DC universe.

Without Superman, there wouldnt be any other heroes. He was the first one, the grandfather so have some respect!

In the DC universe, Superman is a rolemodel. Every hero acknowledges that he is the best hero there is. He is an ideal of a man, an epitome. Superman is the center.

3. Franchise

I´ve heard claims (not on this panel) that DC Comics cashes in with their characters. WTF?!!!  In Finland, Marvel products are majority compared to DC products. There are whole sections of childrens toys devoted to Marvels hollow heroes. And when DC has a few products with their logos, thats selling your soul????
Marvel, you have sold every last bit of soul you had, if there even was any to begin with!

4. Plots

When it comes to Marvel, I ask what plots? Every god damn book is about fighting against other heroes, aliens or villains. Recently I saw Avengers Arena which is a rehash of  Battle Royale...And considering that the popular Hunger games is a rehash of BR, I understand why Arena was made..

Marvel doesnt seem to have even a half decent plot to put their heroes in.

5. Villains

Name one memorable Marvel villain. OK. Venom, but thats it.   What about Batmans villains, ha?

6. Useless heroes

One of the claims on the panel was that DC has redundant heroes like Blue Beetle, Wonder Woman or Aquaman. Yeah, and every Marvel character is a carbon copy of DCs character. SNAP.

7. Movies

DC doesnt overexpose their heroes with a movie opening every month. And there are sequels too...  What DC does with their movies, is a something much more valuable. And DC animated movies...what Marvel has against DC´s Justice League: Doom or Flashpoint paradox? Oh yeah, they have Ironman & Hulk: Heroes united.

8. Other stuff

I could go on & on with this...but you get the picture.

Superheroes rule!

As you all probably know, Im very much into DC comics, but there are other great superhero comics too (excluding Marvel).

Dynamite and Valiant publish great comics too, and the characters are really interesting and diversive.

For example Dynamites Project Superpowers:

And Masks: Zorro, The Shadow, Green Hornet etc.

Injustice - Gods among us : WII U

After thinking about it long and hard, I have decided to buy WII U, because of the games like Injustice and Batman Arkham City. Now I have basic WII but it doesnt have the games I want.

Looking at the Youtube videos about Injustice, it really looks great.

Has anyone played this?
